I am a NJ native and have bachelors degrees in physics and math from the University of Rochester. I received my PhD in physics from the University of Arizona, where I did experimental work on quantum state preparation and quantum state tomography in cold cesium atoms. However, I performed my work at Arizona’s College of Optical Sciences. Afterwards, I was a Joint Quantum Institute Experimental Postdoctoral Fellow working on nonlinear and quantum optics at NIST Gaithersburg and the University of Maryland campus.
Since then, I have been physics faculty at American University in Washington, DC. I often teach quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and experimental physics. You can find the department on LinkedIn and Instagram. I am still adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland.
I am an experimental physicist specializing in classical and quantum optics, nonlinear optics, atomic physics, quantum sensing, quantum information, and optomechanics. You can find my publications on Google Scholar and ORCID. See who my current and former students are.
I spend a lot of time listening to and playing music. I was the drummer for the post-rock band The Orchid, and I currently play baritone guitar in a completely improvised experimental project called Fanoplane. See what I’ve been listening to on last.fm.
